Cowlitz River Fishing Guide
One of the most productive salmon and steelhead rivers in the Pacific Northwest. The Cowlitz delivers spring Chinook, summer steelhead, fall coho, and winter steelhead through the season.
The Cowlitz River is a workhorse. Fed by dams on the upper system, it maintains fishable flows through much of the year and draws significant runs of spring Chinook, summer steelhead, fall coho, and winter steelhead.
We fish the Cowlitz from drift boats through its classic glides, tailouts, and bucket water. Spring Chinook fishing peaks from April through May — some of the most sought-after salmon in Washington. Summer steelhead arrive in June and July, and fall coho push hard through October and November.
The Cowlitz is bigger water than the Kalama, which means more room to work and more techniques in play. Back-trolling, side-drifting, bobber fishing, and spinner casting all have their day depending on conditions and what the fish want.
