Winter steelhead — the main event
Winter steelhead define Chrome City Guide Service. From January through March, we fish the Kalama, Cowlitz, Lewis, Elochoman, and Naselle with bobber presentations and drift gear. The Kalama is our home water — intimate canyon fishing with chrome fish that fight hard in tight current.
Techniques we use
Bobber fishing is our most productive steelhead technique. We also fish drift gear, centerpin, and fly when conditions and client preference call for it. Every trip includes instruction — we want you to understand what is happening on the end of your line.
Where we fish steelhead
Kalama River
A classic Southwest Washington steelhead and salmon river flowing through old-growth forest just minutes from Kalama. Known for winter steelhead, spring Chinook, and fall coho.
Cowlitz River
One of the most productive salmon and steelhead rivers in the Pacific Northwest. The Cowlitz delivers spring Chinook, summer steelhead, fall coho, and winter steelhead through the season.
Lewis River
The Lewis River system — especially the North Fork — produces quality coho, spring Chinook, and steelhead in a scenic Cascade foothills setting below Mount Adams.
Elochoman River
A intimate Southwest Washington tributary known for winter steelhead and fall coho. Smaller water, fewer boats, and some of the hardest-fighting fish in the region.
Naselle River
A coastal Washington river near the mouth of the Columbia, known for winter steelhead, fall coho, and a remote, scenic fishing experience on the southwest coast.
