The North Fork Lewis River produces quality coho salmon from October through November when run strength supports a fishery. These fish are aggressive, chrome-bright, and eager to chase spinners and take bobber presentations.
Coho fishing on the Lewis is best when water levels are stable or dropping after a rise. Fresh fish push on each bump in flow, and we target them in tailouts, glides, and the soft water below riffles where coho pause before continuing upstream.
Spinner fishing with size 3–4 Blue Fox and bobber fishing with eggs or sand shrimp are our go-to techniques. Coho hit hard — be ready for an immediate run when the bobber goes down or the rod loads on a spinner strike.
The Lewis has a quieter feel than the Cowlitz or Kalama. Fewer boats, beautiful Cascade foothills scenery, and fish that fight like they mean it. It is one of our favorite rivers for fall coho when the run is on.
